Target, T-35

Firing with 2cm PzGr range 120m.

All turrets (large main turret with 7.62cm gun, two small turrets with 4.5cm gun long, two small turrets with MG) were smoothly penetrated on all sides. When hit in the main turret about 10cm to the left of reinforced mantlet, a fire started inside the vehicle, first visible by a black cloud of smoke, later by bright red glowing flame. Since it was still fully equipped with ammunition, it was not possible to exactly note the results, since there was danger of an explosion.

Target, attempt, T-35

Firing by PzB 39, range 100m.

Front armour: The frontal armour below the front right turret was easily penetrated. These hits would have mortally wounded the gunner at the level of the abdomen. The reinforced driver’s view hatch as well as the nose armour was not penetrated.

MG turret, 4.5cm gun turret, 7.62cm main turret: The turrets were clearly penetrated, but not the gun ports. The crews of the turrets would have been put out of action.

Hull side armour: The armour over the running gear was easily penetrated, but had no effect because the hull armour behind them was not penetrated.

Summary: The types fired on by the company have been penetrated with 2cm ammunition in some places at up to 500m, and in all places at up to 300m. Naturally, the effect increased as the range was decreased. The gunners have gained confidence in their weapons and due to this test firing they have overcome the Panzerschreck (tank shock). In the hands of a steadfast gunner, the PzB 39 is an extremely effective weapon, capable of penetrating even the heaviest Russian tank. The fighting power of the tank, if it is not completely put out of action, is considerably reduced by wounding members of the crew.
