In painting a posthumous portrait, you will need to work with existing photographic material. In the case of this portrait, I worked from a flash photograph and a big grin, both of which I tend to avoid.

As it turned out, I couldn't have hoped for better results. Dr. Fisher's patients and their parents have often remarked how much this portrait captures the man they remember and are grateful to have known.
