“My son’s a general contractor,” Donna stated as we finished the approach to my current office and she pointed to the mess behind me in the alpha’s old doorway. “He could fix the door frame and replace the door for you.”

Nice. I hadn’t had any time to think about the door yet, let alone replacing it and making repairs. “He’s a member of the pack?”

“Of course.”

“Good. Can you text me his information? I’ll give him a call as soon as I can.”

Donna sat in the chair everyone had occupied so far today. Thankfully she was my final meeting of the day. I took my seat and rested my hands on the desk.

“So, Donna, besides running the newsletter with the other ladies, tell me about yourself.”

She fidgeted in her chair, a normal response to the question, and nervousness spewed from her, which was not the response I’d expected from this woman. Sure, the other three were more outgoing, but Donna still appeared to be just as confident as all of them.

“Alpha, I’m in some financial trouble.”

Okay, here we go. Right to the heart of the issue without me having to dig around to figure it out.

I nodded. “Because of the tax.”

“And my late mate’s medical bills. He was very sick in the end. Plus, our mortgage still isn’t paid, and utilities…it’s all a mess.”

Leaning forward, I rested my elbows on the desk and thought. I was okay with handing out little bits of money here and there to help in minor situations of need, but this was not minor by the sounds of it. While I still would help her, I’d require it to be worked for.

Her shoulders slumped even further. “And I really want to go to college, which I can’t afford to even think about.”

My eyebrows shot up. Donna had to be in her seventies, and she wanted to go to college? Grinning, I chuckled and folded my arms, earning her confused attention.

“Donna, if you want to attend college and earn your degree, I’ll do everything in my power to get you there. Everyone deserves to have access to the education they wish to pursue, even more so in this pack where it’s been out of reach for so long. There will be a financial burden, but I think between the two of us, we can find some ways to lessen the burden for you. I’ll also speak with my new Beta over finances and see what she thinks we can do for you. It will require some work on your end, but we’ll make sure this stress and burden are lightened for you.”

“I’m seventy-two. There’s not a whole lot I can do anymore, Alpha.”

“I know.” Sitting back in my chair, I let my gaze roam to the ceiling as I worked my brain. “How are you with activity planning?”

“Like parties? I’m fairly good at it.”

“Yeah, parties, game nights, holiday celebrations. I’m going to assume not many of those have happened during Nolan’s days as Alpha.”

“Never.”

I nodded and sat straight again and grinned at her.
