Thick lashes covered eyes I swore had seen right through me as she came, her fists clenched my uniform shirt, arcing into me.

So fucking beautiful.

Watching Pearl let go like she had was a gift. Some part of me was cynical about her claim. She melted into my arms with the grace of a practiced wanton, but my heart pushed it aside. Pearl was something special, and despite our short time together, keeping her in my arms all day was the future I could see.

Every damn day.

But my own grace period was up. A pang lanced through my chest as two sets of boot steps slapped the passageway outside my office in a familiar rhythm: Jase bearing Simon Bentley to his punishment.

The problem was the kid couldn’t care less about his job, which surprised me. Most of us were on board to either escape from a past or to hide from ourselves—sometimes both—but always we were here to work and have fun. Even so, the crew pulled their big boy panties on when need called, and got the job done.

Merry and Jase often vied for the position of hardest worker with the worst hangover, but Simon had never jumped on that bandwagon.

“Time to get up, Treasure,” I murmured into her hair, trailing kisses over her temple.

“Not going to happen.” She spoke into my very rumpled shirt.

How was I going to explain that one? I glanced down, but the damage was irreparable. Lies sprang into my mind, but I ignored them all.

“Come on, babe. You need to hop up. The boys will be in here soon, and I don’t want them to see you like…” I trailed off, unsure how to phrase it in the event she thought I was insulting her.

“Like a slut you threw over your desk and fucked?” she snapped. Dark eyes flared at me, her voice tight.

Any other time I might have enjoyed her tone, but for now, I winced. “When you put it like that…”

“Mmm. Not. Going. Anywhere.” She punctuated each word with a tap to my chest, slithering down my legs to disappear beneath my desk.

“What the hell are you doing down there?” I hissed.

All I received was the flash of a devious smile as she tugged my chair into the enclosed space, locking herself in.

I had half a second to attempt to straighten my shirt and look professional before Jase tapped on the door, pushing it open without invitation. I gripped the edge of my desk with whitened knuckles and said a silent prayer.

“Boss?” He poked his head around the door and was half a step inside my office before his eyes widened at my flushed face. “Ah—later. I’ll come back. This can wait.” Jase backpedaled in an instant, pushing his burden back out the door.

I sighed and waved him in. “We may as well do this now.”

What better time to dress down my crew member on insubordination while the passenger I was fucking hid beneath my desk.

And my office smells like sex.

Fan-fucking-tastic.

I slapped a fake smile on my face until Simon trudged through the door after Jase, kicking it closed.
