APPROACHING RAILROAD.

By now, every citizen of Fontana is aware that a railroad is to be constructed that would connect Fontana with Denver. There are some who might laud this development, and indeed, the thought of measuring travel by hours, instead of days, has some appeal.

But I ask you to give this a second thought. We, the citizens of Fontana, are rightly proud of our little town. Here neighbor knows neighbor, and we live in peace and tranquility. We are a self-sufficient community, with stores to serve our every need, nice restaurants, and saloons where gentlemen can meet to share a convivial drink.

In short, dear citizens of Fontana, we have re-created here a veritable Garden of Eden. But just as an invading serpent disrupted the blissfulness of the Garden of Eden, the railroad, which one could liken to a mechanical serpent, would, when it comes to our fair town, destroy the peace and tranquility that we now enjoy.

The railroad will inevitably bring with it uncouth workers who have no sense of propriety and who would disturb our community with their drunkenness and debauchery. So, too, could we expect the arrival of gamblers, harlots, pickpockets, and ruffians, who would make our peaceful streets unsafe for women and children.

So that our fair community not be destroyed in such a way, this newspaper is calling upon the mayor and the city council to pass an ordinance that would deny the railroad entry into Fontana.
