Chapter Thirteen

“Can I still take you out tomorrow night?” Julia asked after they retreated to Shelby Grace’s hotel room. She was more than okay with the adjustment of plans, though she wanted to make sure she appreciated Shelby Grace in every way, that this wasn’t a spur of the moment thing, but a beginning. Something special.

“I won’t say no,” Shelby Grace whispered. Her attention was certainly not on food at the moment as she was on top of Julia, kissing her neck as her hand wandered between her thighs. Julia didn’t leave her with any doubt. Her body had been ready since before she knocked on the stage door earlier.

“Good.” She let her arms fall to her side, relaxing into the mattress while Shelby Grace explored and revered her body. Her lips were soft on Julia’s skin. Julia’s mind was about to overflow with affection and pleasure, the intensity of every sensation evoked by curious lips and fingertips. She wanted to take in every moment. A moan escaped her lips, and she closed her eyes, certain the visual would drive her over the brink too soon. She could feel Shelby Grace’s hair caressing her thighs, her intimate kisses leaving Julia helpless. How could she have ever thought not to call her? She never should have let the lack of her own courage get in the way, not when they could have this together instead, perfect bliss. A small shift, and the silky strands brushing over her skin in addition to the warm pressure of Shelby Grace’s tongue against her clit undid her.

She pulled Shelby Grace to her, holding her tightly.

“I guess that means I did okay.”

“That’s the understatement of the year.” Julia’s words came out in a breathless whisper.

Being with Julia was…easy, for the lack of a better word. And being a songwriter, she should definitely find better words. Shelby Grace’s thoughts were swept away in a rush of lust, sensations taking over her musings as she succumbed to Julia’s skilled touch. Tender, teasing, creating goosebumps on her skin. Intimate, irresistible. She was no longer asking herself if this fit anyone’s concept of sex. She was no longer asking imaginary people for permission to be happy. It was a revelation.

Julia kissed her neck gently, then her lips wandered over her collarbone to Shelby Grace’s breasts, giving them loving attention. Her mouth closed around a nipple.

Shelby Grace’s hips rose, changing the angle of the fingers moving inside her. She whimpered, helpless to do anything but surrender. She was no longer worried or afraid. This was where she belonged, here, with Julia. She’d wanted to feel at home, with a partner she could trust.

Julia was that person.

“I love you,” she whispered, not caring if it was too early for that. It rang true, and urgent.

For a moment, she held her breath, until Julia said, “I love you too,” her hand trailing down Shelby Grace’s back.

Into the soft silence, somewhere in the room a cell phone rang, and another one vibrated.
