Chapter Fifteen

~Joanna~

I was finally able to head over to our new office to unpack. It had been a stressful week as I helped Al with his family. Thankfully, he was now out of the hospital. His shoulder would take a while to heal, and he’d have to wear a sling for several weeks or more than likely months plus nearly a year of physical therapy, but he was alive and back home with his family.

His mother had been nearly inconsolable when I’d talked to her. I talked her through it and got her calm. Then I went every day to ensure they had food and that his mom was taking her various medicines.

Al had told me that his sisters both let her get away without taking them at times, and he always had to stay on top of it using a journal to track everything. It had helped me a lot while I filled in for him.

His sisters were both special needs, so it was understandable that they might not be good at this and needed the extra assistance. They could cook simple meals and clean. One of them had an office job as a receptionist, but the other couldn’t work. She was the sweetest lady and helped her mother around the house.

But today, Al was home and could monitor things, and I took the opportunity to get back to my life. I hadn’t been to the new office yet and needed to get my stuff unpacked. We’d be seeing clients before long, and I wanted to be settled in when we did.

Micah had already gotten our storeroom in order while Tessa had worked on the reception and waiting areas. She’d sent me pictures, and it looked beautiful. She’d really captured what I’d wanted with a home-like feel. It wasn’t too clinical feeling which I wanted to avoid.

With those two areas complete, I’d just need to work on my private office and the reading room. Once these areas were done, we would be ready for business again. Appointments would start in a few weeks.

I decided to bring Chewy with me again. I liked to have him with me whenever I could, and he liked it too. He’d been extra clingy after the shooting at Leo’s, barely letting me out of his sight, so I thought this would help him not be stressed while I was gone.

When I arrived, I saw that both Micah and Tessa were already here working. She on the computer in the reception area, which was located just to the right of the empty security desk.

I didn’t see Micah but assumed he was in the storeroom packing products to be shipped out as we had many online orders to get out.

“Good morning.” I said to Tessa as I leaned against the reception desk, “How are things going?”

“Good. I got the last of the appointments scheduled, so now we’re fully booked for next month.” She confirmed. “And nearly booked for the month after.”

“That’s great. I hope people are okay with this extended break as we get settled in here.
