Being ”great” meant buying lackluster listings at the right price with a total renovation budget and time frame in mind, but still implementing the signature style that Corbin and I had already developed and then delivering the project to market with enough aesthetic panache to sell quickly for top dollar.

As luck would have it, right out of the gate I was shown a pocket listing by an agent I had been working with. The house was quietly being offered at a great price, given its “marquee” location in the desirable Hollywood Hills, a picturesque tangle of streets high above the Sunset Strip.

As soon as I arrived, I noticed the hilly grounds were spectacularly overgrown, and I immediately envisioned the amazing city views I could reveal and reframe. The allure of the view would be an amazing selling point I could use, but I also wondered why I was the only buyer looking at this “diamond in the rough”—and then I stepped inside. It was the definition of deferred maintenance—structurally, mechanically and cosmetically. Vast expanses of personal clutter were masking a diorama of odd taste.
