Our bar almost ready to be painted.

I approached the City of Orange, and they recommended a designer who lived in Orange to do architectural drawings. This designer was doing the work of an architect but did not have the same credentials, so he was cheaper. The city planning and building departments knew him personally, so he knew what they required with architectural renderings. He had a good personal relationship with the workers in these departments. This made it easier to get things approved.

I had sold my previous business, DK CUES, and had the money to stay on the job each and every day and monitor what everyone was doing. Fred was a full-fledged carpenter and knew what was needed for the construction. We would meet every morning, Monday through Friday, at 7:30 a.m., and together we’d decide what the agenda would be for that day.

They would begin working, and I would make a list of everything I needed to pick up, mostly at Home Depot. I still had my van that I used to sell cues for DK CUES, so I would bring back loads of drywall, plywood, hardware, paint, and anything needed for the day. After six months of this, I was not a happy shopper at Home Depot. Now it’s a pleasure to go in there again.
