After they’d washed all the dishes and dried them to his surprisingly high standards of cleanliness, she caught him sniffing covertly at his armpit. He jerked his head away and snorted in disgust. “Uh…did you fill the water tank when we got here?”

Lily pressed her lips together and tried not to laugh. He’d gone from werewolf to Wookie and couldn’t handle the smell. “Yep. I showed you that part too when we hooked up, remember?”

Romeo looked at her with wide eyes, suddenly aware of the small space in the Winnebago and how close they’d been all morning. “Sorry about…I mean, I should’ve—” He sighed and nodded. “I’m gonna take that shower now.” He knelt beside his pack, pulled out a few fresh clothes, and smiled like it hurt. “Are there towels in the bathroom?”

“Uh…” Lily’s gaze flickered toward the tiny stall with its cramped toilet, shallow sink, and one-person shower. “They have showers here. Right outside. Anything has to be bigger than what I’ve got.”

“If you have water and towels, I’m good.” Putting as much distance between them as he could, he shuffled around her and slipped through the bathroom doorway.

“I really think you’d like the campsite’s showers far more,” she added and tried not to sound too concerned about it.

“This is fine.” He pulled the narrow door shut.

“Okay, but I should probably warn you—”

He opened the door again enough for him to press his face through the opening. “You do have soap, right?”

“Of course I have soap. That’s not what I’m trying to—”

The door snapped closed again. “Okay, great. Thanks. I’ll be fast.” His urgent dismissal was muffled through the door, and before Lily could get in another word, the shower turned on.

“I hope you mean faster than four and a half minutes ʼcause you’re about to find out why I showered at your place.” Of course, he didn’t hear her. Lily retrieved her phone from her purse in the center console and flopped down on the couch to wait, strangely aware of the fact that he’d slept in that very place last night. She lit the phone’s screen up to time the shower. “I cast the spell to try to fix it. Maybe the shower only screws around with me.” When she saw the time on her phone, she laughed. “It does not feel like seven in the morning right now. I’m normally way grumpier than this.”

At exactly four and a half minutes, the shower shut off, abruptly followed by, “What the—” The faucet handles squeaked a little as Romeo fiddled with them. He pounded on the shower stall a few times. “Uh, Lily?”

“Yep. I got it.” She stood from the couch and dropped her phone back into her purse. “Remember that’ll keep happening, okay? So…sorry.” His only response was a deep sigh before she stepped outside to the water tank’s access panel on the side of the RV. Her cheeks burned in a high flush as she opened the panel, unscrewed the cap to the water tank, and screwed it back on again.
