As one, the drums died down and I was standing in front of Jonathan—my last swap—and he gracefully bowed. “My Lady Sapphire.”

Marissa walked through the sea of power towards me, leaned in, kissing my lips. Taking my hand in hers, she led me back to the table where Dakoda waited, and joined my hand with his. She bowed her head. “My Lady Jade.”

“My Lady Jade. My Lady Sapphire,” the assembled guests called out, acknowledging me as both.

Tears that had threatened to spill over when I'd first arrived, now slid down my cheeks. Palms and fists raised to their chests, I raised my own as Dakoda did, and we all bowed our heads. “House Sapphire and Jade,” I said.

Cheers erupted when Dakoda took my hand. “You honour my Queen and you honour your House with your loyalty and devotion. This will be the first Spring of Jade for many years to come.” Nods and smiles greeted the statement. “It is even more enlightening that we enter this historical event to announce that my Queen is with child.”

Eyes widened, and some hands flew to cover mouths as I smiled upon them. Their reaction to the news heightening my own joy.

“My Lady Sapphire,” they all called, palms, and fists back at their chests. “You honour our great House.”

Dakoda brushed his lips over my knuckles. “That she does,” he said. “Now, it is our wish that you don’t hold back. Your Queen wants this celebration to reach to the Moon Goddess herself. Let's honour our fallen House. Let's honour our House and most of all, honour our Queen.”
