Extroverts derive their energy from social connections, and they thrive on having a number of people in their lives. For them, it’s called networking. They often focus on the conversation they’re having with no thought to reconnecting in the future. They’re so excited about finding diamonds that they put their energy into finding more diamond mines, pulling a few stones out of each one. They’re good at exploring but miss the opportunities that are directly in front of them.

Introverts prefer fewer, deeper relationships. Initiating and holding a conversation is rewarding but drains their energy. By treating each encounter as a one-time event, they’re missing the very thing that could make the process less stressful.

Having a second or third conversation provides a number of benefits:

You don’t have to go through the process of starting a new conversation as often.

You can form deeper relationships with the people you encounter.

It’s nonthreatening because you’ve already gotten to know the person.

You’re developing a network of people who can introduce you to others.

In a work environment, you become more visible and influential as you strengthen personal ties.
