Chapter Five

It took three weeks for Summer to be able to look Marcus in the eye after their night of sex games. She had ended up screaming out her safe word, throwing on her clothes, and fleeing from the library, more ashamed than anything else. The emotions that had built up inside her chest had sent her too far over the edge. She’d had to get away from him and away from the library, should never have let him get to her like that. Why had she so unabashedly dropped her panties and plopped herself down onto the conference table, allowed him to touch her the way he had? Something about him made her act not quite like herself. Actually, everything about him made her react like that.

She still occasionally found him looking at her from across the library, as if he were searching for the right words to make her fall under his spell again. It wasn’t going to happen, though. Nothing he could do would make her spread her legs for him once more.

She didn’t like him, she reminded herself.

When the library closed each night, she rushed to finish her work, avoiding glancing at him or even standing near him. So far, he hadn’t made a move to repeat the events of the eve of the Fourth of July.

Pushing a cart toward the elevator, she tried to take her mind off Marcus. What he had done to her was unforgivable. He had made her give over her control to him. Had made her do things that caused her to blush thinking about them. She’d walked naked around the library! Allowed him to touch her, to tease her.

Damn him! Her pussy had grown wet just from thinking about him. She’d never had a man command her with such skill, such power. It was all in his eyes, whereas his voice was gentle, yet firm. Someday, she’d find another man like that, one who could make her quiver when he crooked his finger in her direction. Someone other than Marcus Welks. Pressing the call button on the elevator, she waited for it to open, then trundled the cart inside and sent the elevator to the third floor. She took in a deep breath, attempting to ignore the tingling between her thighs. Tonight would be a night for a cold beer and a round or two with her new best friend. Of course, she’d think of Marcus as she played with Mr. Rabbit, but only because she didn’t have a replacement man in mind yet.

Exiting the elevator, she took the first book from the cart; then she couldn’t help but smile a little at the title. The New Joy of Sex. Maybe someone was trying to tell her something. Shelving it and reaching for the second book, her grin was quickly swept from her face.
