Ruthie McCoy – Stay In Prayer
I know Gene doesn’t love me like he loves his grandmother. Yes, I get jealous about a lot of stuff, but I just stay in prayer. I keep my family lifted up. When times get rough, I do the only thing I know to do…I turn to the Word…So when Gene ’came out,’ that’s what I did…The Bible says that homosexuality is wrong and I believe that in my heart. Right in Leviticus 18:22 it says, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” How can you be any clearer than that? I talked to my preacher about it. He said that a demonic spirit can enter a child from the womb. That’s right! That spirit attacked my baby in the womb. That’s why Gene thinks that he was born that way. I talk to him about it, but we just can’t seem to agree. But I’m not going to give up. I want my son to be saved and filled with the Holy Ghost. Ahhhh glory!
I know I haven’t been the best mother, but I wish Gene could see my not being around when he was growing up was the best thing for him. I was 17 when I got pregnant. During those days having a baby at 17 was a disgrace, so, I left. The only person who knew where I was going was my older brother William. In fact, he gave me the money I needed to get to Washington, DC. He had a friend there who let me stay until I could get on my feet. After I got settled, I called Momma, and told her I was pregnant. It was easier that way.
I named him Gene Alexander McCoy. I did the best I could to raise him, but I didn’t know how to raise a baby. My brother’s friend that I was staying with was no help. He was bringing all these women in the house. They was drinkin’ and shootin’ up. That’s how I got caught up in that mess. You see, the devil knows your weakness. He knew my mind wasn’t right. I just needed something to take the edge off. Raising that boy got to me. I took one hit and that was all she wrote.
That’s when William came and took my son. He said he would keep him until I got myself together, but my brother lied to me. When I came to get Gene, William and my momma would not give him back to me. They said that I wasn’t fit to raise a child, and it was too late, they loved Gene like he was their own, and they weren’t giving him up. They said they were too attached. How did they get so attached after only two years? I tried several times to get my baby back, but they wouldn’t let me have him.
After one last attempt, I decided to just go back to Washington and focus on me.
