KNIT PLACEMAT

MEASUREMENTS:

Approximately 13 x 18 inches.

MATERIALS :

- Size 5 mm (U.S. 8) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.

- Yarn (200 m/220 yards)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Cast on fifty four stitches. Knit three rounds, noting First Round is wrong side and increase by twenty stitches across the last round. Seventy four stitches.

First Round (Right Side): Knit one stitch. * slip the next two stitches. Using a left hand needle, pick up the stitch that had just been slipped and knit into the back of it. Repeat from * to the last stitch. Knit one stitch.

Second Round: * Purl two stitches together, then purl the first stitch again, slipping both of the stitches off the needle together. Repeat from * to the end of the round. Repeat the last two rounds for a pattern to from until the work from the start measures 171⁄2 inches, ending with a wrong side row.

Next Round (Right Side): Knit, decrease twenty stitches evenly across. Fifty four stitches. Knit two rounds. Cast off (Wrong Side)

Top and Bottom Edgings

With the right side facing upwards, take the material and nit seventy six stitches evenly across the top edge. Knit two rounds. Cast off (Wrong Side). Repeat for the bottom edge of the mat.
