The greater scope of tracking involves aligning yourself with a goal in order to become the goal. To effect this, tracking principles, strategies, and practices are designed to produce stable shifts in the focal point. Realizing your goal is the equivalent of stabilizing a shift. The pinnacle of tracking is bringing your entire life into line with Spirit. An intense manifestation of this alignment is the Fire from Within. For that degree of living with Spirit, you must measure each and every aspect of your life against that quest.

Don Juan advises that focal point shifts should be done peacefully and performed in harmony with yourself and the world (Fire, 216), giving you time to catch up with yourself, to make shifts to and from reason and will, and thus to come to your own terms about your endeavors. As a result, tracking helps you foster smooth transitions. So rather than rant and rave about this and that, rather than feeling helpless and afraid, and rather than sit on your haunches hoping deliverance will arrive, you can use tracking to help you steadily and surely forge a path of your own heart’s making.
