DANNY
Iâd slept half-sitting on a wooden bench with my backpack as a pillow yet somehow, when the dawn light coming through the cracks in the walls woke me, Iâd had the best nightâs sleep of my life. I looked down at Erin, dozing on top of me, and knew why. Sleep had never felt like that with any of the other women Iâd slept with. Maybe Iâd never fully relaxed with them.
The sex had been incredible, too. Just the memory of her bouncing on top of me made my cock rise. It had never been that good. Even with Elodie, in Paris, and sheâd done things that even Iâd thought were kinky.
I stroked Erinâs hair and felt my chest tighten. Maybe it was because I hadnât cared about the others.
Erin mumbled something and started to slowly come awake. I watched as she frowned, grumbled, and put her glasses on. She was extra adorable when she was sleepy. She finally managed to blink herself awake and focus, then looked up at me. âHi,â she said shyly.
I ran my hand over her naked back. âHi yourself.â
She looked around the hut and I could sense everything sinking in. What weâd done. I felt her tense against me, her breath tightening. âWhatâs wrong?â I asked.
She put her head down on my chest and stared at the stove. âI justâ¦â She paused. Took a deep breath, then another. âI want you to know that if that was just a one-night thing, that thatâs okay. I mean, Iâll be okay.â
I took her chin in my hands and gently made her face me. She looked me in the eye, her jaw set, determined to convince me. But I could see the fear in her eyes. âNo,â I said firmly. âNo, it wouldnât be okay. And it wasnât just a one night thing.â I went to tell her how I felt about her: happy and bonded and, oddly, secure, like I could trust her with anything. But I couldnât figure out the words. That threw me. This was me, talking to women was what I did. So why was saying this so hard?
Maybe because, for once, it wasnât just jokes and flirting. It meant something.
Erin was still looking up at me, worried. So I told her the one thing I knew with cast-iron certainty. âYouâre my girl, now.â No one was ever taking her away from me.
She flushed, nodded, and the grin she gave me lifted me right up through the ceiling. I wrapped my arms around her, she cuddled into my chest and all was right with the world.
After a while, though, my soldier brain started to kick in, infuriatingly practical. It started to think about how today we'd reach the rendezvous point at the village. And what would happen when we got there.
I just fucked JDâs little sister. Not after a month of careful dating but within a week of meeting her. My stomach twisted. JD was going to be⦠Mad didnât even begin to cover it.
