She woke up what felt to her like days later, but a quick check of the clock indicated that it was only just after four in the morning. She was lying naked on the bed. Feeling warm, spent, almost liquid with relaxation.

“Evan?” she whispered.

Williams was fast asleep, minus her trousers and socks but still wearing her t-shirt and pants. Head pressing gently against Holson’s shoulder, both arms locked tightly around her neck. Several strands of hair had fallen all over her face, almost completely obscuring her features. Holson bent over her, and gently kissed the side of her mouth. She tasted herself on her lips, and she blushed.

“Evan,” she repeated. “Hey.”

Finally, Williams opened her eyes. A slow, uncertain smile spread over her face.

“Hi,” she murmured. “Nic…”

Voice husky from sleep, lips a little swollen. Gorgeous.

“Hi,” Holson replied softly. “Hey, what’s this?”

Williams’ smile faltered.

“What?”

“Come on, get rid of it,” her lover whispered, lifting one side of her t-shirt. “It’s my turn now. Let me make love to you, Evan. We’ve got time.”

Williams seemed to hesitate. She stared with a strange expression on her face. She looked away for a second, appearing a little stunned. And then she simply turned, swung her legs over the side, and stood up.

“Sorry,” she mumbled. “I… I have to go.”

Nic’s smile instantly faded, and she grabbed her by the arm.

“Wait…” she murmured. “Evan, is something wrong?”

When Williams turned to look at her, she gasped at her sudden pallor. She spotted the sweat on her forehead, and the rapid pounding of her pulse. Her eyes, so bright only a few seconds before, had completely glazed over now, and her breathing appeared totally out of control. Panic attack, Nic realised, shocked.

“Okay, sit down,” she instructed. “Please, sit down before you…”

“I’m fine, damn it,” Williams raged in response.

She tore her arm from Holson’s grip. She took a single step forward, exhaled, and collapsed.
