Becoming a Team Nutrition school will help schools focus attention on the important role that nutritious school meals, nutrition education, and a health-promoting school environment play in helping students learn to enjoy healthy eating and physical activity. This is achieved through demonstrating a commitment to empower students to make food and physical activity choices that reflect the Dietary Guidelines for Americans; making sure school meals that meet these guidelines taste good and appeal to children; building programs on science, education, communication, and technical resources; involving schools and communities; providing age-appropriate messages in the language they speak and the media they use; and focusing on positive messages regarding food and physical activity.3
