There’s a light that shines within you.

All you have to do is let it shine through. Open the curtains. Take off the mask that hides the light and light up the world.

If we ask people who they are, they usually start with their names, followed by what they do for a living. If you ask them to continue, they may tell you their background and preferences, and maybe even their values and beliefs. But none of that is who they are, it’s their story. We are not our story.

As soon as we try to define ourselves, we reduce ourselves. If I would say ‘I am a writer,’ all of a sudden I have reduced myself to being a writer. I am not a writer; I am a human being that happens to write. At the core of what a human being is is being itself. That’s indefinable.

All of our definitions, thoughts and stories are just curtains that block our inner light from shining through. Our task is to pull back the curtains.

If we are able to let go of everything that we are not, we may eventually realize what we are; we may suddenly re-member our true Self.
