Chapter Seven
Dean
It’s as good a moment as any for Paris to remember me, what with her delightful ass in my hands and the taste of her skin all over my mouth. A little sooner may have been better. I just imagined taking her into my bedroom and tearing off her clothes and finishing this with her, again, and I admit it’s my only concern right now. I can’t read her expression when she rears back and repeats the name I solicited that night. Does it change her mind? Is she angry with me? I can’t interpret the set of her mouth this time, or those big brown eyes.
Won’t we still have—
“Your brother,” she says, and swipes up my phone. “Danny is calling.” She points the screen at me.
Impeccable timing, that one.
“I’ll call him back later.” I slide my hands back up in her hair. All the fragrance of oils and booze, and even that damned cat, yet all I smell is her. Lovely and sweet. I could eat her up. Somehow those cashmere eyes soften more when I cradle her face. I draw her closer, but she resists.
“You should answer,” Paris says, standing up, which feels miserable from my end. “Danny,” she states his name for the third damned time, and then, “your brother…” her voice trailing as she whirls from the living room.
Ah, hell. She remembers, or is starting to. And it’s not looking great for me. I take the call.
“Did I interrupt something?” Danny asks, amused, and I realize I’m a little breathless.
“Just me and my new roommate, ah, getting to know each other.” He laughs at that, but I know why he’s called. And it isn’t for the details of my living situation, or my current sex life.
My no-sex life.
“I was there yesterday,” I tell him. “Dad’s doing…better.”
Danny’s voice pitches lower. “So nothing’s changed?”
“Well, ah—”
“I see,” he says, and I picture his resigned expression, the single bob of his head. “It’s gotten worse.”
I take a breath, wheeze it out. “You might plan for a visit,” I press, gently. I stand up from the couch and turn to peek down the hall just as Paris emerges from her bedroom. She opens the door to mine and walks right in. I make a question mark with my face, but try like hell to just focus on Danny.
“Next flight we charter to Dallas, I’m there.”
He can’t see me, but I reply with my own uninspired nod. It’s been eighteen months since Danny’s flown a jet here. “Any chance you can push for one soon…”
“Yeah,” he says. “All right. Soon as I can.”
“Great.”
Paris reappears from my room. I watch her as she comes down the hall without looking at me, striding all the way to the front door. She steps outside, leaving the door wide open. Winter is lazily moving in, it’s here tonight, and so Paris looks chilly in her thinner-than-skin yoga pants and tank top half falling off of her now. She walks down to the curb and pauses
