He Should Have Known the Facts

Being made the foreman wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Walking around and making sure everyone was doing their job left his feet and legs painful and tired by the end of every day. It was a terrific job, and at a very elaborate and clean factory type setting. It was more than just a filthy floor and workspace type business. It was a place where electronics were put to good use in various household items throughout the country. Here, many items such as phones of all types, radios, DVDs, toys, and electronic household gadgets were all assembled quickly and efficiently.

As in all settings such as this one, there was a quality control process. Each new product that came in was carefully assembled and sent to QC for inspection. There were questions to be answered. Does it turn on and off properly? Has a sample been sent to UL Laboratories for testing? Is it assembled properly? These were only a few of the checks made by QC. Each time a product was checked it had the checker's name and date assigned to it. One of his jobs was to make sure QC was doing their job properly.

He, like many people, felt that Monday was the worst day of the week. On this particular Monday it proved to be a clear and present SNAFU. Several of the giant shopping centers made phone calls to the CEO's office. It seemed that a certain brand of vacuum cleaner was shocking individuals who had purchased them from the retailers. The cleaner was in fact a product from USNE, his employer. USNE was Uneeda Spanking New Electronics.

That Monday afternoon he was called on the carpet. He was to find out who was responsible for QC during the time the cleaners were assembled. He knew that would be easy enough. All he had to do was go back to the date the product was received and check the name of the person who was responsible for the quality control. Would that person's job be on the line? It all depended on what the situation was, and what type of mood he was in.

There was once a case with dehumidifiers that wouldn't turn off when the bucket was full. Some just ran on and on no matter what. In that case, the boards built in China were sent back for further inspection. There proved to be a problem with the circuit boards in general. It was then that they were asked to use the schematics for those of the UK and US. Once they were put in place, there were no more problems with the boards imported from China.

He looked into it, but that was not the case. Further checking went into finding the person responsible for the QC. It took only a short time to come up with a name. A young lady who was hired for having a certification in computer science seemed to be the culprit in this case.
