CHAPTER NINETEEN
Jesse switched off the drum recordings. He yawned and stretched his arms over his head, looking at his watch. Ten past eight. He wondered what was keeping Evan. He had run home to feed Achilles and let him outside, but he said he’d be back by eight with a change of clothes for him so they could go out with everyone to welcome Brad to the band.
Jesse smiled and let his arms swing down on both sides of the chair. When they told Brad they’d like to make him their drummer, tears of joy overflowed from his eyes and he hugged each of them.
Brad’s skill was exceptional. He played “Vanish” without a single misstep and played it the way it was meant to be. As much as it hurt him to admit it, Brad was a better drummer than Trish.
He had more power, was smoother, more refined. With Brad, Jesse felt Conquest could come closer to reaching the level he sought to achieve.
At the sound of the door opening, Jesse turned in the chair to see Evan walking in.
“Sorry I’m late.” Evan closed the door. “I lost track of time playing with ’Chilles.”
“How’s he doing? Is he lonely? I’ve been thinking we need to get him a friend. It’s not good for him to be cooped up in that big house all by himself.”
Evan set the clothes he’d brought for Jesse on the control desk and leaned back against it. “Yeah, maybe. He was fine when I got there, and I took him for a run on the beach and fed him. He was getting ready to pass out when I was leaving.”
“That’s…good,” Jesse said, distracted as his gaze moved over Evan. “I can’t believe you. We haven’t had sex in days and look at the way you’re dressed.”

“Is there a problem with how I’m dressed?” Evan asked with a knowing smirk.
Jesse continued to stare at him. Cut perfectly to his frame, the airy material of the black button down shirt accentuated the V shape of Evan’s torso. He had the top three buttons undone, showing the curved lines of his pectorals. Jesse felt the amount of saliva in his mouth increase at the sight of Evan’s skin, fed by the mental image of pushing the shirt off his strong shoulders and licking a trail down Evan’s chest to the ridges of muscle in his abdomen. As his gaze traveled lower, he saw Evan’s black leather pants did a poor job of hiding the large bulge pushing against the front of them. The pants were pulled over a pair of black leather boots. Adorning each of Evan’s finger were rings of silver set with onyx, jet, black pearl, and obsidian. Though, he still wore the alexandrite ring on his left ring finger and the eagle on the right index.
Jesse looked again at Evan’s face, his azure eyes and soft lips.
Two large black diamond studs replaced the usual gold hoops Evan wore in his left earlobe. He had
