Chapter 13

JOSH yawned and stretched his legs. A sharp pain shot through his back. No wonder Sam hadn’t wanted him sleeping on the couch while he was injured. May as well have slept in a cramped cage with the way his limbs were sore and stiff.

It hadn’t helped matters that he got very little sleep that night. He’d told Sam the kiss never happened, but his mind seemed to think otherwise, fixating on the memory and refusing to let him forget. Every muscle in his body had tensed in that brief moment as their mouths touched. His heart had made a valiant effort to break through his ribs, thudding violently against its constraints, and his stomach had been turned upside down and back to front.

What the hell was Sam thinking, kissing him like that out of nowhere? No one had done that to him except his mom. But her kisses were different—soothing and warm. They were nothing like the sudden light-headedness and the scorching heat that took over his body to frazzle his mind.

He’d never thought about kissing anyone else before, male or female. Why bother when no one would want to kiss him anyway? Josh rubbed at his eyes and glanced at his watch. Almost time for college. Maybe a long day of lessons would help take his mind off things. By the time he got back, it would all be a distant dream.
