This clever newsjacking tactic worked because journalists interested in legislation that might emerge from the FCC meetings were eagerly looking for content via Google Alerts. So they instantly found the Amdocs commentary.

Amdocs was quickly rewarded when the Penton Media publication Connected Planet devoted an entire blog post to Amdocs' thesis in a piece called: “Not Being Shocked by Bill Shock.” Several other industry publications followed up with stories of their own.

Reaching important industry journalists in real time gets you noticed. Plus, the relationship that's built lasts much longer. Following up on the meetings, the FCC published proposed new rules requiring companies to notify customers when they are about to exceed plan limits and incur extra charges. The result of Amdocs' newsjacking effort lives on because now anyone researching the proposal will find both the Amdocs post and media stories quoting Amdocs' take on this key issue.
