Monica

“I know, I know.” Stella rolls her eyes. “You’ve got work to do. But you know what, Monica? Taking a break every now and then will help you focus. Otherwise you’ll burn out.”

I hate to admit it, but she’s right. I’ve been throwing myself into my program as much as I can. It’s been more difficult than usual these days. I haven’t been able to shut off my feelings for the guys yet. So instead I’ve been trying to set them aside by pouring myself into my studies. I need to anyway.

If I give in to the sadness I can’t seem to get rid of, I won’t get anywhere. I can’t afford to do that.

“So come on.” Stella drapes her arm around my shoulder. “I’m not leaving until you agree.”

“I’m not ready to start dating again.” I protest. I can’t do it. Who could even compare to Dex, Cade or Roman? Let alone all three of them. There’s no way I want to get out there and start dating. Not anytime soon.

Of course Stella won’t take no for an answer. “It’s been a long time since your ex. Long enough for you to be over him. Come on, Monica. It’s time. Long past, actually. You deserve to have some fun.”

I haven’t told anyone about how I ended up spending my holiday. For a brief moment, I consider spilling it all to Stella. But I can’t. She’d have too many questions, ones that I’m not even sure I have the answers for. The fantasyland of being at Dex’s cabin is just too out there.

Even though it felt so right.

Everything happened so naturally but I’m not even sure how I could start explaining it to someone else. Even a good friend.

I do want to tell Stella. But I stop myself right before I open my mouth. I want the guys to be my secret, so I can hold onto the feelings of being with them. I want the memories to belong to me only. Because what I feel for all three men is truly like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.

No. Felt. Not feel. I’ve got to put it in the past. I’m having a lot of trouble doing that. Maybe Stella’s right.

My mouth twists up. “Do you have anyone in mind?”

She clasps her hands together. “I can fix you up with one of my boyfriend’s friends. I’ve got the perfect guy for you. We can make it a double date. That’ll take the edge off.”

Yikes. I don’t think anything could take the edge off of a blind date. Especially one I don’t really want in the first place. But maybe this is what I need. Putting myself out there could help me to refocus. Besides, maybe it’ll be fun. “When?”

Stella’s eyes gleam. She wants me to be happy. I’d like that too. “I’ll set it all up tonight and let you know. The sooner, the better.”

My stomach’s knotting up already. “I don’t know if this is such a great idea. I’m just not sure I’m up for it.
