CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

It took us a day and half to get to the next zone, where we got the message we had been waiting for.

Welcome to the area of the city of Bridgehead. Warning. If you were born in a level 10 starter zone and are still level 10, please turn back now, as only death awaits you. If you are level 20 or higher, welcome, and may the Omniverse Nexus watch over you as you level, Adventurer.

Technically we weren’t level 20 yet, but when talking to Vira, she had told us that we could still go in at level 19. We had also leveled Bri while walking to get to this zone.

“Nice,” I grinned at the girls. “Now we can do some decent leveling. Did we want to go to town first, or hunt?”

“Well according to my PID,” Shana interjected. “It’s only 2:14 PM. I’m unsure how much further we have to go before we hit Bridgehead.”

That last comment was directed at Bri.

She put a hand over her eyes and looked ahead. “I’d say, based on the map I saw, we should be roughly four hours from the town.”

“Damn,” I swore. “Then no hunting. We should head straight there.”

“Or,” Bri grinned. “We could hunt for a bit and head to your home world.”

“Oh!” Onyx said. “Fish!”

I turned and laughed at him. “You and your fish.”

You have taken 20 points of damage.

Suddenly, I had an arrow in my left arm. Pain radiated from the entry wound, and I grunted in surprise.

“We are under attack!” Bri shouted, her shield already on her arm and her sword out.

I grabbed the arrow and pulled it out, grunting in pain once more, but then I healed myself.

“Nature’s Renewal,” I said and felt the soothing relief of healing magic flow through me.

You have healed yourself for 20 points of damage.

What sucked was while the spell would heal my body, it did fuck all for my armor, which meant I would need to repair it later. Since we had Bri in our group now, I rarely had to get my armor or short swords repaired, since I didn’t take any damage.

I heard a shout, and I looked up. Out of the forest, from the side of the road, three monsters rushed us.

I used Identify on them, but I already knew immediately what creatures they were.

Race: Minotaur Scout

Name: ?

Level: 20

Skills: Bow

Spells: Keen Sight

Abilities: Dash

It was the only one with a bow, so it was most likely the one that had shot me. I glanced quickly at the other two. They stood tall and strong, easily twice my size. Their bodies were covered in fur, brown and rugged, like a wild beast. Their faces however, were the most striking - a combination of a bull and a man. The Minotaurs had sharp horns curving from their head, and eyes that glared at us with a mix of hatred and menace. Their muscular arms ended in large, powerful hands; each one capable of delivering a devastating blow. They looked almost exactly like the ones we had fought in the dungeon, but those ones had darker fur than these ones.
