Chapter 16 - Lydia
Even if our bond was still fairly new, I could read Sebastian like a book.
Whether it was due to our connection or if he just made it incredibly obvious, I couldnât ignore how protective he seemed over the last while.
With time, I managed to gain a sense of normalcy in the pack, and every day was getting easier for me. Everyone was welcoming and didnât treat me any differently, and it was nice to be around warmer, familiar faces again.
His new, more intense protective streak was getting harder to ignore. While he wasnât being too stifling exactly, he started making sure that if he werenât with me, then at least Zoe would be. He often asked me my plans for the day, and if he had the time, heâd come with me wherever I wanted to go.
While it was endearing, and I enjoyed spending that time together, it did catch my attention and curiosity. It made me wonder what caused that sudden shift, but I wasnât willing to complain.
The chance to reconnect with both Sebastian and Zoe was too nice to pass up.
âYou have to try the white chocolate chai here,â she said as we entered the coffee shop and stepped toward the counter. âI donât know how they do it, but itâs phenomenal.â
Smiling at her enthusiasm and at how nice our day had already been, I nodded. âCount me in then.â
Zoe placed the order for us, and we were soon handed our drinks. During our visit, I took in the coffee shopâs warm atmosphere and appreciated how relaxed everyone inside seemed.
While life in my old pack wasnât necessarily chaotic, we didnât have any places like this where we could meander around and talk with the others. If it wasnât essential, then our territory didnât have it. Jack was always very specific about what we could and couldnât do, and he typically had a heavy hand over what we consumed.
It was nice to do as I wanted and to see a different way of living.
âI heard the boutique just down the street is receiving some new items today. Did you want to check them out?â Zoe asked, hitching her thumb in the direction of the shop.
âThat sounds really nice.â
âPerfect!â She said, hooking her arm in mine as we walked out with our drinks.
Thanks to our rekindled friendship, my heart felt full, and after being without that companionship for so long, I was beginning to realize how much I missed it.
Leaving Zoe and Sebastian behind was difficult, but I became more and more grateful every day for the chance to be around them both again.
As we meandered around town, flitting from store to store while we laughed together and reminisced, I found myself getting lost in the moment and forgetting all about the less-than-ideal situation I came from. It felt like no time had passed, and it was easily becoming one of the most fun days I had had in so long.
Sifting through a rack of shirts, I pulled one out that caught my eye and lifted it to get a better look.
