The doorbell rings. I expect it to be Mikey with an armful of possessions and unable to reach for his house key.

“Oh, baby, couldn’t you reach your… Shit! Nate, hi. What are you doing here? Not that I mind. I’m just surprised.” I open the door wider, allowing my friend to enter.

“I thought I’d check to see if you were still alive. I haven’t seen or heard from you for a while.” He laughs. “I can tell by your comment as you opened the door that things are good for you. Everything got sorted out?”

“I’m sorry I haven’t kept you up to date. Yes, we got it all sorted, Nate. It really has been a crazy time. Work is off the charts busy, and yes, homelife is good. It’s so very fucking good.” I laugh. “Come in. Do you fancy a glass of wine?”

“I’d love one, but only if I’m not taking up your time. Are you waiting on someone?” He winks.

“I have a lot to tell you.” My heart swells as I think of Mikey and how amazing he is and how much I love him.

“As long as it includes that divine man from the club being back with you, then I’m ready to hear everything.” Nate follows me into the kitchen.

“When everything went to shit, I wanted to hide, and now, it’s all good. Hell, better than good. It’s perfect. He’s a scamp but still the most delightful little ever.” I smile softly at the memory of his diaper-clad ass up in the air as he played with his train set last night.

“Good for you, Cal. You deserve this.”

I place a glass of Chardonnay in front of him, then sit opposite with my own glass.

“What’s going on, then? How did you make it up?” His fingers twirl the long, thin glass stem as he watches me.

“We met up again, and I took control, made him mine again. He’s moving in. I thought you were him, just now, hence my comment. It was tough, Nate, but we are both totally committed now.” I ponder the last three weeks since the contract with HeavyLoad! was signed and how easily we’ve melded together.

“Wow! I wasn’t expecting that. Good for you, Callum.” He gives me a sly grin. “When do I get to meet him?”

“If you take your time with that glass of wine, there’s a very good chance of you meeting him any minute.” I look at the digital clock on the top of the oven. 5:56 shines brightly in a red glow.

“What does he do?” Nate lifts the glass to his lips and takes a sip.

“He’s in business,” I answer noncommittally.

“Is that it? Is that all you’re going to give me?” He fake scowls.

“Yep, the rest is for him to tell you, when and if, he wants to. Trust me, though, he’s a very private man.”

“Because of his lifestyle choice or his business?”

“Maybe both.” I shrug, “How’s everything with you? Have you been back to the club?”
