“No, let’s do this. Let’s go out.” I kissed the top of Mia’s head and wrapped my arm around her waist. “We need to discuss a few things over dinner.”

“Should I be worried?” She looked up at me and those blue eyes made me realize I was right where I was supposed to be.

“Worried? Not at all.” I tickled her side. “Excited is more like it.”

“Oh, okay.” She followed behind me and quickly locked the front door. “You’re not taking me to some sweet shop are you?” She stopped at the end of the sidewalk.

“No.” I grabbed her hand and tugged her forward. “But there will be a few sweets involved.” She actually groaned as I shut the car door and went around to the driver side. “Hey,” I grabbed her hand. “I know this is crazy to say but you can trust me.”

“It’s weird. I actually believe you.”

When I made the decision to go to Mia’s even after she sent the text. I honestly didn’t plan for what happened when she opened the door. Her red dress. Those blue eyes. I had to have a taste of her.

“Do you like brisket?”

“Who doesn’t?”

“My dad.”

Her eyes went wide. “Don’t share that in public down here in the south.”

“Noted,” I laughed and backed out of the driveway.

“I visited Michigan once.”

“You did?” I glanced in her direction. “Where at?”

“Well, we landed in Detroit but we drove to a place called Traverse City.”

“One of my most favorite cities.”

She turned in her seat. “Is it? I remember it being beautiful, but I can’t remember much because I was maybe ten at the time.”

“So we do have a connection.” I teased.

“What?” She sounded surprised.

“Or not.” I shrugged.

“My best friend said that exact same thing.”

“What? We have a connection?” I stopped at the light and stared at her for a moment.

“Yeah.” She finally looked over at me.

“Do you believe her?”

She shook her head. “I honestly have no clue. Plus, having one thing in common does not make us connected.”

“I bet we have more than one thing in common.” The restaurant we were going to was only about two miles from Mia’s house. I pulled into the parking lot and quickly found rockstar parking.

“We’ll see.” She winked and opened the door.

“Odds are in our favor.” I hopped out and walked around to her side of the car. I put my arm out and she looped hers in with mine.

“Would you bet on that, Mr. Appleton?”

“Hell yeah and I’d go all in because I’d win.”
