Kerry didn’t like it. It was too easy and too clean. In all her years of experience, Kerry learned to be cautious with admissions of guilt. More often than not, it turned out to be a criminal who was lying in order to gain some leniency on a charge.

And that’s exactly what was happening with Devon.

Kerry wasn’t sure if he would speak to her, but it was worth the try. Wayne was comfortable with accepting Devon’s confession and letting Peter pull rank on the case.

Kerry, however, wasn’t.

She had a lot of respect for Peter but moving Devon to a lower security prison was just a PR move after the disaster that unfolded with Griffins and the lawsuit. She knew that there was a lot of support for her with the public and now she was trying to bring Sebastian Crow’s killer to justice.

The lawsuit didn’t change that in her mind.

And Wayne still hadn’t gotten around to charging him with the murder of Calvin Crow yet.

Kerry parked in the far end of the parking lot, opting to not park in the spaces reserved for visitors. She wanted to keep her presence at the jail low profile.

The guard on duty signed Kerry in and then called into the holding area for the prisoner to be brought up to the meeting room.

Kerry waited ten minutes before a guard entered the room where she was seated. She was holding Devon’s elbow and guiding him to the vacant seat on the opposite side of the table. After he was handcuffed to the table the guard left the room, but only after Kerry insisted that she would be fine. She knew that it was the protocol that each room was monitored by a video camera and that she was safely being watched by the guard on the other side of the two-way mirror.

“So now you want to speak to me,” Devon laughed sarcastically.

“Not really. I don’t feel like I have any choice since you lied to the arresting officer about having killed Kyle Crow,” Kerry goaded Devon with her tone.

It worked.

Devon lunged forward and banged his fists on the table, “I did kill him! How else would I’ve known it was him on that hill?”

“I think you’re just shady enough to know the kind of guys who would have killed Kyle,” Kerry said. “It’s more likely that you heard them talk about it and you just thought it would be the perfect way to distract everyone from what really happened on Crow Island.”

“You’re just upset that your boss stepped in and made a deal with me,” Devon snapped at her.

“I agree that I’m not happy about that, but I also think there is more to what happened the night that Sebastian Crow was killed than you’re telling us. I know someone else was there. Who was it?” Kerry asked.

She hated the idea of another killer roaming free while Devon protected him.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said.

“I don’t believe you could’ve killed Kyle. Not by yourself anyway.
