CHAPTER 14

“Buenas noches amor mio”, Sophia said when she answered the phone. “How was the meeting with Kaden?”

“Interesting. Our Mr. Lux is far from a saint. It turns out that he wasn’t completely honest with us. Shocking, right?”, I said sarcastically.,

“He now says that his alibi is, get this, his mistress. They were at the Marlins game during our kill window.”

Sophia laughed and asked, “Have you been able to verify that’s the truth?”

“No, not yet. But he did say they caught a foul ball in the fourth or fifth inning. We can re-play the game on MLB.TV and see if the cameras saw him. I’m willing to bet they were on TV when they caught it. He would stick out like a sore thumb just about anywhere. Anyway, that and the fake emails should be enough to get Kaden released.”

“Oh, he also told me that his office space doesn’t have a surveillance system but his main office, where they found the gun hidden in a vent, has a hidden camera. I’m headed there now to see what is on it.”

“Did you tell the police about the camera?”, Sophia asked.

“I did. They are going to send someone tomorrow. That’s why I want to see what’s on it tonight. I’m not too trusting of Detective Smith yet. You said you had some news, what did you find?”

“I was able to get part of Simon’s calendar. It has an entry for a meeting prior to the one with you, it was with a guy named Toby Joss. Google says he’s a local venture capitalist and has an impressive list of companies that he’s worked with.”

“Great work. Let’s plan to pay him a visit tomorrow and see if we can find out why Simon would need to meet with a money man. In the meantime, see if you can find video of Kaden at the Marlins game. If you do, send that over to Detective Smith so we can get Kaden out of jail. In the meantime, I’ll see if I can find that hidden camera in Kaden’s office. I’ll be home after I check out the video”, I said.

“OK, see you soon”, Sophia said as I pressed the end call button on my phone.
