So it seems the atheist onslaught on the comedy circuit is on the wane – which in turn will hopefully stop a certain sort of Christian bemoaning how we are ‘persecuted’ in the West.

Comedy works when people can recognise truth being revealed – it’s why in recent years observational comedy has become so popular: there is real pleasure in realising ‘that’s so true!’ Two other comedians who are known to be atheist but who have a slightly different approach to laughing about religion are Dara O’Briain and Eddie Izzard. They speak about what they know. Only someone who had been raised in the Church of England could have so accurately spoofed Anglican congregational singing like Eddie Izzard:
