33 The Union Square Greenmarket began in 1976 with a handful of farmers and has since grown into an enormous market where some 140 regional farmers come to sell their products in the peak season. In the winter the market is somewhat smaller. Vendors sell organic fruits and vegetables, bread, cheese, and organic wine. Be sure to also check out the cooking demonstrations from famous local chefs and sample their creations.
