EPISODE SEVEN
The Seraph Blade
A seraph blade engulfed by heavenly fire and infused with angelsâ spirits is lethal to a succubus or incubus. Kane revealed his extensive research to Zandra and me several nights after the now vampire-Lycan hybrid had brought the berserkers under her control.
We stood in the kitchen as we refreshed ourselves on the store of human blood he kept in steady supply.
But she is immortal. It wonât kill Lilith. Zandra polished off her large glass of AB Neg and set it on the counter.
No, but it will rid us of Samil and Lilith and send them back from where they came. Kane rubbed his smooth chin and finished his glass of O Neg, my favorite and his.
The daylight hours had passed uneventfully while we rested and James and Zandra guarded Kane. Heâd spent every night pouring through tomes of ancient manuscripts until he found an answer.
How do we get a seraph blade? I licked my chops to capture the last drop of blood on my lips.
Let me guess, Zandra teased. Seraph means a member of the highest order of angels. So, weâd need to get a seraph blade from an angel?
An angel? Like Seth and Mathias, you told me about, Kane? Tell Zandra about them. I want to know more. I jumped up and put my paws on his broad shoulders and licked a drop of blood from the corner of his mouth.
He laughed and pushed me down. Not exactly. But, yes, angels like Seth and Mathias are involved, but Iâll tell you more about them later. This entire process is complicated.
How is it more complicated? Zandra and I simultaneously questioned.
We need to find a Shadowhunter to locate and invoke the bladeâs power. Kane moved to the doorway between the kitchen and the den and motioned us to follow.
He abruptly changed the subject which frustrated me. How are you feeling, Zandra?
Hmm... fighting back fits of rage and wanting to rip out a throat or two, but hanging in. She smiled sweetly causing Kane to laugh.
And your brothers? He arched his eyebrows at her as they both sat in the matching chairs in front of the fireplace.
I settled into my bed next to the fire.
The same, although the poor animals in the forest are taking the brunt of their rage and urges.
Where are they? I sneezed and looked up at her.
Spending time with the berserkers, showing them our ways of behaving and dealing with combative situations. They left right after dawn this morning. She looked Kane in the eyes. Stop stalling. What do we need to do to find and use the seraph blade?
Kane sat forward and rubbed his chin. Before the blade can be used, a Shadowhunter must name it to invoke its power. Any angelâs name, except for Razielâs, can be called upon.
Why not Raziel? I sat up.
Kane got up and started to pace. He appeared to grow more and more like his sire Brogio as time passed. He wore less brilliant clothing, which he had always adored.
