The deputy said, “You can keep asking that but you’re going to get the same answer. I have no clue how he’s doing it.”

The deputy assured the sheriff, “No, we’re not playing games. I wish we were because we will at least have an answer.”

It was about midnight, and the sheriff decided that he would again go collect the dog the next morning on his way to work. Seeing the frustration on the sheriff’s face every time he had to pick up the dog was getting comical to Abe. This time Joe did something different, and he assured Abe that White Dog would escape no more. However, he did and in mere minutes.

The sheriff once again brought the dog into the station. The deputy began to get a bit spooked because he seriously thought that the dog was some kind of ghost or an alien that had just walked through the bars and escaped.

The sheriff thought all that talk was hogwash as he put the dog back into the cell.

“This time it’ll be different,” thought the sheriff.

He placed the dog into the cell, attached one end of a set of handcuffs to his collar and the other end to a rope that went through the bars and was tied to a pipe on the outside of the cell. The deputy said, “He’ll never get out of that.”

The sheriff said, “It’s still not good enough. Harry, go get that chair and bring it in here.”

The deputy questioned the Sheriff, “Why?”

The sheriff angrily said, “Harry, just get the chair!”

Just as the deputy walked in with the chair, the drunk in the next cell woke up “What the hell is all the noise for, Joe?” he asked.

“Beau, just go back to sleep. Becky wants to make sure it’s all out of your system and told us to keep you here for a couple days.” said Joe.

The deputy added, “He’s still drunk after two days. How does Becky put up with it?”

The Sheriff replied, “Oh, old Beau is not a violent drunk. After a few more days, he’ll be sober for a few months.”

“What do you want me to do with this chair?” asked the deputy.

“I want you to sit in it and watch this dog.” the Sheriff said.

“All night? Who’s going to man the phones?” the deputy asked.

“I called Dennis in to man the phones. I want to know how he’s doing it.” said the Sheriff.

The next day came.

The officer stationed at the cell had dozed off and was awakened by another deputy coming on duty, “Harry, wake up! Where’s the dog?”

“Oh shit, Joe’s going to be shitting bullets! I swear I only dozed off for a few minutes. I checked on him every hour. Look! I wrote it all down.” The deputy explained.

“Beau, wake up!” Harry yelled.

Beau, still half asleep, asked, “Harry, how can I sleep this off if you keep waking me up?”

“Did you see a big white dog?” Harry asked.

“A big white dog? In here? I stopped seeing things yesterday.” Beau said.
