HE RAN AS fast and as furiously as he could away from the parking lot. His heart pounded hard in his chest and his breathing released from him in short deep gasps.
Dammit. He was so ticked off that some damn stocker boy had halted his beatdown on the swamp slut. If heâd had just a few more minutes with her, he would have been able to kill her or at the very least turn her into a vegetable that had to be fed and babbled nothing but nonsense. He could only hope heâd done enough damage to her that she would just die from all her injuries.
It had been a gift from God that heâd been on his way to the grocery store and saw her truck going into the back parking lot.
Heâd parked in the front lot and then ran around the store and hid in the deep shadows behind one of the trash dumpsters in the back. Heâd watched as she conducted her business with the butcher and then when sheâd come back out to leave, heâd pounced on her.
With his first punch, an enormous rage toward her had taken over him. How dare she come out of the swamp and hook up with his best friend. How dare she play in his playground when she should be deep in the swamp where she belonged.
He finally stopped running and leaned against a tree trunk in somebodyâs dark front yard. He bent over with his hands on his knees to catch his breath and then checked his knuckles to see what kind of damage he had done to himself.
Thankfully, he had big meaty hands and he didnât think they looked too bad despite the numerous times he had hit her. Besides, he had kicked her more than he had punched her.
God, it had felt so good to unload on her. Beating her felt almost as good as that night when heâd encountered her in the swamp.
He began the long trek back through a neighborhood so he could get to the front door of the supermarket. He still had to buy some groceries before heading home.
He hoped it had been enough. He hoped like hell that heâd beaten her hard enough that she would die. He wanted so much for her to be dead. She could destroy his life. But he absolutely couldnât allow that to happen.
If his beatdown of her tonight hadnât killed her, then heâd come up with another plan to assure her death. He entered the grocery store and grabbed a cart. He smiled at one of the checkout girls and then went up the first aisle.
Oh, yeah, one way or another, the swamp slut would never get an opportunity to identify him as her attacker.
