Convergent validity, too, was established where the average variance explained (AVE) by each construct was greater than the measurement error (i.e., the AVE is at least 0.50). Further, discriminant validity was established by examining cross-loading of each item from a given construct on all of the other constructs, and by ensuring that maximum loadings were in fact appropriate to the construct to which each item belonged. As seen in Table 2, the AVE for all factors was less than the CR, suggesting discriminant validity of the factors (Fornell & Larcker, 1981).

Three of the four primary guidelines suggested by Jarvis et al. (2003) for the formative construct Designing were reviewed while proposing the construct. The fourth guideline, which pertained to multicollinearity, was analyzed to explore the lack of parsimony and conceptual overlap among the first-order constructs (Diamantopoulos & Siguaw, 2006). The data (Table 3) showed the shared variance was within acceptable range (less than 0.5) as suggested by Hair et al. (2010).
