That evening the Jejods provided a feast for the visitors. Musicians emitted flute sounds and those of creaking branches in a strong wind, similar to stringed instruments. Singers called disharmonic birdsong. Acrobats performed daring feats in the sky. Yanda thought she’d have to get used to the sounds, but the synchronized falling through the air took her breath away, sweeping back up in sheer elegance.

The plan was to sleep on the ship and get off first thing. They thanked their hosts and said goodbye, not knowing when or if they’d return to this amazing world.

The trip to Prokit’s Moon would take little time with hyperdrive, Tlalit assured them.

“We have enough fuel for that. Then we need to fill up.” Tlalit fidgeted, clearly anxious to go. They gathered belongings they’d brought to the treetop villa and paraded down the mountainside late in the night.

Back on ship, Yanda slipped away to her compact quarters with Zami for alone time. They lay on the bed and Zami told her about his day.

“Tomorrow we’re going to Prokit’s Moon. Tlalit has been talking about it since I’ve known her.”

“What we do there?” Zami asked.

Yanda hugged him to her. “I think there’ll be things you’ll like. I don’t know much about it.”

“Animals?”

“Oh, I imagine so. Let’s ask in the morning.” She could look it up, read about it, but sometimes travel should be about discovery.

Vatu came and climbed in above them.

Drifting to sleep after a long day, Yanda thought, “We got the darkness out of Bonden.” She wanted to congratulate herself and the others but something held her back. Was Bonden really safe now? Had they removed everything that threatened her? Soni’s readings and their examinations told her she was free of taint. Yet worry niggled in her.
