Chapter 12

Chino

2 weeks later- Friday

Fridays sucked hard. No one ever wanted to work especially the secretaries with their lame ass excuses when they called off. The firm was damn near vacant. From my desk, I stared out my door gazing out onto the desk where my wife worked wishing she were still there. Ashley was a great substitute and kept a smile on my face but it was not the same. I thought time would make it all better and being with Ashley would help ease things. Yet, it only made my heart grow fonder for Starla.

I missed her beautiful smile, her warm embrace, the way she used to fuck me back when I came inside of her, and the way she would nibble on my nipples making my knees buckle when I did. My mind, body and soul craved her on a daily and that was one of the reasons why I made her my wife. She did things for me that no other woman had ever done. Still, I could not help but think about the reality of things, which was the fact that she did not love me anymore.

It was 3pm. I could have been working on briefs for next week or figuring out another way to kiss up to my dad to make partner, but none of that mattered to me at that point. If I never won another high-powered money shoveled case it would not have bothered me. Without my family, I was nothing.

Ashley wanted to take all of my problems away, throw them right in the trash. She wanted to focus on getting those thoughts out of my head but the truth was I was not ready to let her. My eyes focused on the divorce papers that I had completely filled out and set in the far corner of my desk. They were simply waiting for me to file them and I was waiting for them to magically file themselves so I would not have to.

“Knock, knock. Was I interrupting anything?”

“No, dad. Com’ on in.”

“Hope you don’t mind if I borrow a second of your time. You look like you’re hard at work on a big case.” His words reeked of sarcasm.

“Not at all, sir. What’s up?”

“Son, I’ve been noticing you languishing around the office and I gotta tell you, I’m a little concerned. I’ve also noticed that Starla has not been into the office in a few weeks. Is something going on at home, son? You wanna talk about it?” My dad stuffed his bulky hands into his pockets.

“You, concerned about me? Wow, now that’s some shocking news.” I turned my chair around at my desk facing the wall behind me.

“Just because I’m hard on you at work, doesn’t mean I don’t still care about you, Chino.”

“Yeah, I know. Everything you do you do out of love and you only push me to make me better. Blah, blah, blah. Save me the speech today, dad. I’ve heard it all my life and I’m just not in the mood right now, okay.
