Chapter 4

After dinner on Thursday, Steve loaded the dishwasher while Zack went upstairs to study. The last two days had been much easier on set because the actors had some frame of reference for their lines, and Carlos no longer wore the collar until they started shooting, though he didn’t understand why, which for now was fine. The doorbell rang, sending Timmy up the steps, and Steve into overdrive trying to remember who would be here. He had told his mother not to come this week, not as though that would stop her if she wanted something, but…he stopped guessing and opened the door to reveal Peter with a smaller man on a leash. Fuck. “Hey.”

Peter wore full leather garb, black pants, white shirt and vest. “Hello. Steve, this is my slave. Slave, you may speak.”

“Hello, Sir.” He raised his eyes to Steve’s chin and then averted them back to the ground. Classic slave training. Great. Zack was entirely unprepared for this. Peter alone would have been enough to freak him out, but this went beyond what Steve had planned.

“Hi, come on in, guys.” As they walked past him, Steve grabbed Peter and whispered, “Is he in training?”

“Not specifically, but as you know, training is a continual process.”

“Then, why does he need permission to speak?”

“He never talks to anyone without asking me first.”

“Can you give him a free pass to talk, please?” Steve asked, trying to minimize the damage with Zack.

“I’ll confuse him,” Peter answered. “Where’s yours?”

“Zack’s upstairs. Peter, I respect your right to have any relationship you want, but you cannot be so restrictive here.”

“You said in your email that Zack wanted to come to the club, learn more about the lifestyle. What do you think he’ll find there? Much worse than the two of us.”

“I realize that, but I’m asking you to tone it down. He and I have a very good relationship. If you act this way here, it may scare him right out of the lifestyle.” Steve stared at him. The two of them had switched enough times for Steve to know how to affect the other man.

“Fine.” Peter tugged on the leash and the boy stood at attention in front of him. “Boy, until we leave, you may speak without requesting permission, but be careful what you say.” He unhooked the leash and stuffed it in his pocket.

“Yes, Master.”

“Thank you, I’ll go get Zack.” Steve left after indicating for them to sit in the living room. Now he knew what he forgot the other day. He should have spent hours preparing Zack for the visit with Peter, and now they’d barely get a few minutes alone. He stuck his head in the bedroom to find Zack sitting cross-legged with Timmy on his lap and mouthing the words on his screen. “Hi, love.”

Zack’s sparkling blue eyes matched his grin. “Hey, what spooked Timmy?”

Steve came in and sat down. “Do you remember asking me about going to the club? I told you I needed to talk to Peter, right?”

“Is he here?” Zack set the electronic tablet to the side and petted the cat.
