1966

When fascist organizations regroup and begin to make their presence felt on the streets, anti-fascists organize in response. When the NF held its first meeting in Westminster in December 1966, the Anti-Apartheid Movement was meeting simultaneously upstairs. Predictably, chaos prevailed:

Within minutes hundreds of anti-fascists, all claiming they were going to the AAM meeting, were trying to push through a large police presence inside the building into the NF meeting. Many were turned back. Threats of mass arrests cut no ice with the anti-fascists and confusion reigned as fascists were caught outside and anti-fascists were ejected from inside it.… Outside, a fascist heavy mob armed with bottles assaulted anti-fascists while the police looked on.3

Scenes like these would characterise the NF’s attempts to mobilise throughout their violent history.
