Tyler convinced Veronica to order room service before they left the hotel. She rested in bed while he waited for the food in the outer suite. He reviewed their conversation in the shower the night before and recalled telling her Katherine’s name then, but not this morning.

Veronica made a mistake in mentioning his former wife’s name this morning before he did. He tucked the information away for later.

The slow-eyed look of desire she imparted prompted him to make love to her in the shower one last time in their honeymoon suite. She was so responsive to his touch that he was hard pressed to keep his hands off of her when they were naked. Given how low he’d let his energy reserves get, he was certainly brimming with newly acquired strength after this morning. And additionally surprised that he had any stamina left after so many rounds of sexual perfection.

An outbound phone call prior to the room service order and clothes in Veronica’s size were delivered to the hotel room by the time the food arrived. He was not without resources when the occasion called for it. Mostly, he didn’t relish watching her traipse around in a wedding dress, or a sheer, silky robe at which other men could stare their fill.

Her grateful expression was all the thanks he needed, but she did throw her arms around him and kiss his lips. If they hadn’t been overdue to leave the hotel, he might have pushed her onto the bed one more time, but prudence said he needed to take care of his business first.

Tyler led her to his vehicle. He slid into the driver’s side after holding the door for her.

“Not to sound dramatic, but where are you taking me?”

He started his car and turned to her with a grin. “My ultra-secret lair. I’ll have to blindfold you, of course.”

“Of course.” She grinned in return.

swing by there on the way and collect whatever you left behind.”

Her mouth opened, and she sucked in an obviously surprised breath. “Thanks for remembering. Why are you being so nice to me?”

“Let’s just say I view you as an investment. We still need to negotiate my fee, baby doll.” Unless I can convince you to stay married to me. Beyond the regular energy it would sustain him with, it would be so very fortunate to have someone he cared about sharing his lonely existence. He wondered what it would take to convince her to remain in his life.

“Right. I have some money, not thousands of dollars, but some.

Perhaps I could help you in one of your businesses and work it off over time.”

A brow curved. “And what do you know about my businesses?”

“You operate several.” She proceeded to recite the most lucrative five off the top of her head. “Pretty much anything to do with security, you hold the best contracts. Also, if you don’t have a particular business, you’re good friends with the top people in the specific field.
