Flat collars

Many flat collars have the appearance of roll collars.

For garments with strap or fly fronts construct the collar from a flat collar draft where the collar is a separate pattern piece.

12 Standard flat collar

Trace round front body section. Mark in button stand and buttonholes. Place shoulder of back body section to shoulder of front body section along fitting lines.

Draw in fitting line of new front neckline.

Draw in collar shape.

Draw four lines at A, B, C, D as shown in diagram.

Trace off collar along fitting line of back and front neck, along style line and centre back line.

Cut up lines A, B, C, D; overlap 1cm. Trace collar.

Add seam allowance to neckline and collar style line.

Add seam allowance to front neckline and front edge of front body section.

13 Half collar

Trace front body section. Mark button stand, buttonholes.

Mark A on fitting line at neck point.

Draw in fitting line of new front neckline.

Draw in collar shape. Trace off collar shape.

Add seam allowance to neckline and style line of collar.

Add seam allowance to front neckline.
