“We practice magic every day after school,” Sirena said. “Why should today be different?”

“On the other days, someone has taught us magic to practice,” Lily replied. “Today, you want us to try on our own. And Ms. Trainor didn’t say we should try magic.”

“She also didn’t say we shouldn’t try magic,” Sirena neighed. “Besides, I thought we decided that some of the scary stories about problems with magic stretch the truth a bit. Remember the invisible shark story?”

Lily scratched her mane. “I guess. But they aren’t completely made-up. We know there are definitely some risks to magic. That was our whole lesson today!”

“I know,” Sirena said. “We won’t try anything hard! And we won’t try all fourteen types of invisibility magic.” She grinned. “We’ll just try one. You know that when we work together, we can do anything!”
