Chapter 26

Friday came, and the moment Kirk started the bike, Malcolm felt chills roll over his body. He put his helmet on and walked over to it, to Kirk, and they both threw their legs over. The thunder underneath them made them both smile and once they took off, Malcolm felt some of that dirt he still felt was covering him started to blow off. Kirk finally felt right on his bike with his man holding on behind him. Those arms encircling him was the finally piece of the pie.

The clubhouse was lit up and there was no one missing. The party had already started, but once the two got there, it went into overdrive. They were greeted by loud cheers and huge hugs. Malcolm found Sammy in the crowd and hugged him tight, then pulled away with tears in his eyes.

“I’m so fucking sorry, Sam!”

Sammy shook his head and gave the best smile he could. “No, don’t do that. It wasn’t your fault.”

“I feel like it was.”

Sammy grabbed them both a beer and they went to the front where Kirk was. As soon as Malcolm walked in, Norm made everyone get quiet.

“All right, you assholes, keep your traps shut. I have some club business to get done before all of you get too fucked up.”

Norm pulled a box closer to him and waved the two older prospects to him. “This is usually done behind closed doors, but this time, it feels right to include our ol’ ladies and guests in on the celebration. These two good men have watched over our families, have been there for everything we needed them to do throughout this crisis of ours and other shit. They’ve earned their patches.”

Norm pulled out their patches and handed them over to the men amid cheers from all around the room. When Norm’s eyes fell on Malcolm, he wanted to run.

“Mal, you have earned yours too. You stuck it out through some really fucked up shit because you were trying to protect us from a freak. You could have booked it out of there, but instead, you protected our brother and showed your bravery and loyalty that no one else could have matched. You also take care of this huge pussy, Kirk, and you are a part of us.” Kirk flipped him off, took the vest from Norm and went over to Malcolm to hand him his patch. Everyone was cheering and Malcolm looked up at Kirk shaking his head.

“I haven’t earned this, Kirk.”

Kirk took Malcolm’s vest with the prospect patch off of him and handed him the vest with the full Devil’s Rebels patch. “Yes, you have.”

Malcolm was completely choked up. The meaning of the thing was heavy as he donned the vest and felt their eyes on him. He didn’t know what to say, but they wanted him to say something.

“Uh, I still don’t feel like this is right. Hawk and Webber were prospects for over a year; me, I took off. I am honored, though, and yeah, I’m loyal.
