CHAPTER 17

Maverick watched Dana’s round ass disappear under the satiny fabric of her robe and couldn’t help but grin. He loved that despite the prim and proper face she showed the world, Dana didn’t hesitate to ask for or even demand what she wanted. He loved that with just a little prompting she was wild and uninhibited, at least when it came to sexual play.

She had surprised him with the robe and underwear at the door. He’d have expected anger because of how he’d left, but she’d blown him away.

The sound of movement in the other room brought him back to the present. He rolled off the bed, the motion reminding him of Dana’s blush and the way she’d tried to get away. Maverick snagged his jeans off the floor and went in the bathroom where he disposed of the spent condom, used the facilities, and pulled on his jeans before following Dana.

He'd cleaned up after eight hours in a van in this heat but hadn’t taken the time to eat before coming back to Dana, and now his stomach was letting him know it didn’t like being ignored for so long.

In the kitchen, Maverick found Dana standing near the stove something sizzling in a pan. He wasn’t sure what it was from the scent. Moving up behind her, Maverick wrapped his arms around her waist and let his chin rest on her shoulder. As he looked at the bowl where she stirred some kind of thick batter.

“What you making?”

Well, I’m browning hamburger for spaghetti,” she motioned to the skillet. “This is going to be herb bread to go with it. I just have to finish stirring it up and get it in the oven then it should be ready about the same time as the rest of the food.”

“There’s coffee over there,” Dana motioned to one side of the kitchen, “if you drink it this late, or there’s tea and sodas in the fridge. Cups are in the cabinet above the pot. Sugar is in the same cabinet. I don’t have any creamer but there’s milk and half and half in the fridge.”

“Are you trying to get me to leave you alone?”

“Only for a few minutes so I can get this in the oven and brown the hamburger.”

“All right.” He went to the coffee pot, took down a mug and filled it, opting for black. Rather than go to the table and wait, he turned and leaned against the counter in front of the coffee pot. Sipping the rich brew, he watched as she moved around the room with confidence. Reaching for things without looking to be sure what she was after was there. He could tell she used her kitchen a lot and kept everything put away, so she knew just where to find it.

Maverick shook his head wondering how much time and use it took to be so sure what you were looking for would be there. He hadn’t been organized like that since his time in the Army, or at least since his official time with them.
