“What happened the other night?” I hear Kora’s voice behind me, she sounds a little snippy.

“Nothing!” I snap. “Sorry, Kora. I’m just having a shitty morning and I’m running late for work.”

Kora nods. This is not the first time she’s asked, nor the first time anyone has asked about my middle-of-the-night meltdown. Everyone is curious about why Amnesia Anna suddenly had a crazy screaming fit nightmare.

“I heard you slept with Olie.”

“What? No, he was ordered to stay in my room to make sure I was ok,” I explain. It doesn’t look like she believes me. Nothing I can do about that now. The way she’s glaring at me I wonder if she likes Olie. She’s never mentioned it. I thought she was into Blake.

“I’ve got to go, Kora. Catch you later.”

The best thing about kids is how excited they are to see you. I spend the next two days, working during the day and hiding in the daycare center to paint at night. I barely leave the building but this way I can avoid both Blake and his dad and stay out of trouble.

As a bonus, I can pretend I don’t know about the rumors. According to the pack's underground gossip network, I’m sleeping with Olie, Blake, and the Alpha. I wonder what the men in question think of that.

“It looks amazing. You should do something in the pack house one day. Freshen it up a bit. I mean, if you want to.” I turn to see Blake looking deliriously handsome, running his hands through his hair.

“Thank you. I didn’t hear you come in.” My lingering irritation at him fades when I see how adorably awkward he is.

“I’m sneaky like that. I wanted to talk to you about training if you still want to practice with me.” He looks worried that I might say no. It’s cute.

“Of course,” I say. “Why did you want to train separately?” I have to know it’s not because he wanted me to have time for chores.

“I thought there might be questions you don’t know how to answer. You’re far better than you know. Very few people can keep up with me, and that didn’t go unnoticed.”

“Won’t there also be questions if we start sneaking off for one-on-one training? There will be rumors about the Alpha and the omega he’s sneaking around with.”

He opens and closes his mouth a few times. I don’t think he considered that. Perhaps he hasn’t heard the rumors or perhaps Kora and Angel were just teasing me about that.

“Don’t look so worried, Handsome. When?” I ask, letting him off the hook.

“Tomorrow. Would you prefer before work at 5 am, or after at 2:30 pm?”

“After.” That’s a no-brainer. I search for something else to say. “Do you want to sit?”

I’m surprised when he does sit, and more surprised when my breath catches at his closeness. There’s a palpable change in the atmosphere surrounding us. My heartbeat rabbits and his eyes swirl silver.

That’s when I realize; the black wolf I painted, the one whose silver eyes I’m detailing right now, looks exactly like him.
