~*~ Chapter 1 ~*~

Little Church in the Valley Chapel

Spokane Valley, Washington

5:55 pm

Maddie stood in front of the first pew in the small church, as she stared down at her best friend since first grade. Her hands fisted on her hips, she confronted her, soon to be, ex-best friend.

“Megan, what were you thinking? Why would you do something like this to me? You know how I am around him, I turn into the world’s biggest klutz. Oh, and let us not forget that I lose all ability to form a coherent sentence. I swear, my IQ must drop at least 20 points when I am around him. He must think I have some type of mental and physical disability the way I behave around him. Plus you know I try to avoid him as much as possible. But now, now my, so called, best friend of seventeen years, has decided to play matchmaker or something. She has decided to pair me with the same man that makes me a complete idiot. And at her wedding, none the less. Great, just great, now we’ll have photos and video of me in all my speechless, Klutzy glory. Thanks so much dear friend of mine. Have you lost your mind?!”

Maddie knew she might be overreacting just a tad bit, but damn it all, how was she going to face this man all day long? Especially, after what had happened on Christmas Eve. The Five months she had spent with Bobby Carlson had been the worst of her entire life, a time she would rather forget. She had let Bobby have control over her life and her whole world. Christmas Eve had been rock bottom for her. The look of pity from her friends faces as Bobby forced her out of Aiden’s house. Her plea to Jayden, not to interfere, told her that she had to make a change in her life.

“Maddie, calm down, you’re overreacting, is what you are doing. There is no great plot, against you I promise. I thought you understood. Since you are my maid of honor, and Jayden, is Aiden’s best man, that the two of you would be together. I mean common sense should have told you that. I’m sorry if there was some misunderstanding, but I thought you understood all that, when you agreed to this. I made no secret that Jayden was the best man.”

Megan took a deep breath for patience, before continuing.

“Sweetie, you’re twenty-three years old. You need to get over this phobia you have towards Jayden. It’s not healthy, or normal. No one should have a physical reaction to another person like you do to Jayden. It’s kind of weird.”

“It’s not a phobia Megan, I swear. You act like I should be someone's lab experiment or something. It’s not like that at all. It’s just that when he’s near me, I have a physical reaction to him. My heart starts pounding, my stomach knots up, and I lose the ability to walk and talk that’s all.
