“Hey, Dad,” our youngest son, seventeen, shouted from his room.

“Yes, Isaac,” I said.

“Remember when they taped a white flag to the bottom of our chairs at a church back in the States and I was eight and the speaker told us to wave the flag around if we wanted to surrender to God?”

“Sorta. I remember you waving it around,” I said, walking into his room.

He was studying Christian Beliefs by Wayne Grudem, highlighter in hand. He was getting ready to meet with the youth pastor.

“You didn’t take that very seriously, did you?” he asked.

“Well, we took you seriously, but no, not really. I guess we didn’t think it was for you; I mean, what eight-year-old doesn’t want to wave a flag? But why do you ask?”

“Um, thanks. You were right. I didn’t know what I was doing.”[12 ]

Make sure people know what they are doing. Becoming a healthy evangelist involves understanding these five marks of conversion:

Conversion itself is required .

Conversion requires a clear understanding of the gospel.

Conversion requires genuine faith.

Conversion is followed by a changed life.

Conversion results from God’s action.
